The impact of Hurricane Matthew on the Myrtle Beach area varies from one community to another. Local and state officials are surveying damage and will rescind the evacuation order once it is safe for everyone to return. Several major thoroughfares, including Highways 31, 22, 9 and 17 bypass, have now been opened. Highway 501 is also open, though sections towards Florence remain closed. Several secondary roads in and out of the Grand Strand remain impassable. Check the South Carolina Department of Transportation website for current road conditions. Grocery stores and gas stations have also reopened. The Myrtle Beach airport has reopened, though travelers should check with their airlines for current flight status.
