Hurricane Ian made landfall along the Grand Strand Friday afternoon, but America’s most popular golf destination avoided significant damage, allowing the majority of Myrtle Beach’s courses to reopen Saturday.

Ian brought heavy wind, rain and storm surge with it but moved quickly through the area, sparing Myrtle Beach layout’s major structural damage. Courses were forced to clean up debris and in some cases downed trees, but Ian won’t leave any last impact on area golf courses.

True Blue, TPC Myrtle Beach and three of Barefoot Resort’s four courses were among the layouts that reopened immediately. In total, 42 of PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com’s 65 member courses reopened Saturday and the remainder are expected to be welcoming players back by early next week.

As a result, Myrtle Beach will be fully reopened and its courses in outstanding condition as the area’s peak fall golf season reaches its zenith in October. With no rain in the forecast and high temperatures in the low to mid 70s, golfers coming to Myrtle Beach over the next 10 days will enjoy near-perfect conditions.

The Grand Strand was fortunate, as Ian didn’t pack nearly the wallop it did when it ripped across Florida, causing catastrophic damage along the state’s southwest coast.
