Lion’s Paw terrain is partially tree-lined along a rolling topography, with mounds and slopes along the fairways and greenside. The putting surfaces are generally small and mildly sloping and the greens were updated to MiniVerde in 2011. Land in regulation and good scores can be had. The group of 4 par threes is especially strong, with ponds affecting the shots on each hole. These four are both beautiful and challenging at the same time. This course distinguished by towering hardwoods, bold contoured bentgrass greens, spectacular water shots and mounds of sugar-white sand marking deep bunkers and high embankments, this 18-hole layout is one of the Grand Strand’s most popular courses. Lion’s Paw has multiple tee areas, more than 70 bunkers and generous mounding lining many fairways. Water comes into play on 15 holes and beautiful wetland views can be seen from every hole. With oyster shells lining the lakes and creeks flowing across fairways, the layout is truly spectacular. Lion’s Paw measures 7,003 yards from the blue tees with a slope of 138 and a 74.6 course rating. Other yardages, slopes and ratings are as follows: white tees: 6,457/130/71.6; gold tees: 5,872/121/68.2; and red tees: 5,363/118/69. The course plays through a nice residential community, but also provides a nice degree of seclusion.

Played this and River Edge
We play early last week our group of 28 golfers. The green were nice. Sets up good for drawer of the golf ball. First time on Mini Verde greens, different from what I am accustomed to but they were smooth and were in nice condition. Fairways were descent – overall enjoyable course.
Loved Rivers Edge too. This was probably the group favorite.
