True Blue Golf Pawleys Island is the perfect golf vacation. It opened in 1998 with rave reviews. Mike Strantz created True Blue to echo the characteristics of Pine Valley and Pinehurst #2. For his efforts at True Blue and Caledonia, Strantz was named โArchitect of the Yearโ in 1998 by Golf World. True Blue is one of the most creative golf courses you’ll ever play and certainly one of the most artistic. Fairways, bunkers, and greens feature sweeping edges that rise and fall as if Stranz used his brush stroke to shape the terrain. Book a tee-time or get the best golf package.

Loved True Blue Golf Course by far the best in the area
All the reservatiotions went smoothly. We weren’t too impressed with Litchfield CC, it was very old , River Run was ok equivalent to what we would play at home and we loved True Blue, by far the nicest course we played.

True Blue and Caledonia - Some of America's best
(Played True Blue and Caledonia). Let me first say that I have been very fortunate to play some of Americas best courses both private and public courses and these two belong in that conversation. They share some similarities but are different. They are immaculate, interesting, challenging and still playable.Water as a hazard is rare. They are defined by their extensive and creative waste bunkering. Blue has many more fairway bunkers and some of the wider fairways you might ever play.Donโt be fooled. The crossing and side bunkers bring risk reward into play on every hole.Nearly every green on Blue is surrounded by waste bunkers, there are no bump and run shots. The green complexes are large and fair but if you canโt cover the distance to the center of the green you are more likely to make par with a lay up wedge from the fairway than from the waste bunker. About those bunkers. The bunker sand is hard and packed in the bottom often doubling as the cart path with faces of soft sand as much as 10 feet high.Bring your best sand game.If you have limited mobility Blue may not be for you.The distances from the cart to the green are the longest I have seen and you have to negotiate the waste bunkers by climbing in and out on railway ties that are a bit tricky. Also as a new player if you donโt know where to enter a fairway you will find yourself having to walk a long way around a waste bunker to get to and from your ball in the fairway. The guy who places the โ no cartsโ signs has a full time job.
Caledonia!Wow. This place is special.18 holes that are unique. These holes donโt repeat in design, the routings go in all directions. They donโt copy other famous golf holes or other architects ( how many Redans do we need)? This is a more tree lined course with some holes that have a direct front access unlike the sweeping expanses of Blue.Significant waste bunkering is present around most greens. An esthetic delight and the best of golf experiences.
Taken together the sister courses offer some of the best lowcountry golf. They are destination golf venues that wonโt disappoint. Both are places you could play every day.Caledonia ranks among the best I have played and Blue is also excellent.FYI the only practice range is shared by both but located at Blue which is a short drive from Caledonia which does have a small par 3 range to warm up on. I think hitting out of the waste bunkers on the par 3 holes is better preparation for the course.

played on a dry day
This was our first time in myrtle beach, I wish we had thought to get a yardage and tips booklet. Had a GPS, but it didn’t do justice in showing us important areas to hit to and away from — several holes we would have played totally differently with the benefit of more course knowledge (and several which led unexpectedly big scores on holes). We started on #10, an especially tough beginning hole if you have never played the course — even more so if it is wet! And, starting on the back nine exposes you to some tough sand conditions early in your round, before you have the chance to settle in. If you have your choice, ask to start on the front nine.
