It isn’t always easy to find great steaks in a seafood town, but Myrtle Beach comes through with many great options for those looking for food that comes by land and not by sea. While most seafood spots also offer an alternative menu that includes steaks, it’s always a risk when ordering something on the menu that’s not the restaurant’s top seller. That’s why a trip to a real steakhouse, one that does steaks above all else, are a much safer bet, and there are many to choose from. For a less casual experience, like the hunting-lodge inspired Chuck’s Steakhouse or the Brazilian-themed Rioz, offer top-notch grilled meats in a unique setting. But some of the best steaks in town come from some unlikely sources, such as Angelo’s Italian Restaurant. Although the name says Italian, the sign says “Greatest Steaks in the Universe,” and there are many repeat customers who agree. If you’re torn between steak and seafood, go for the surf and turf.

Carolina Roadhouse

A huge favorite among the locals, this restaurant features baby-back ribs and grilled steaks, along with a good variety of seafood. An open kitchen and great atmosphere make this a must on your casual dining list. Steaks are front and center on the menu, featuring a wide variety of cuts, seasonings and toppings, like sauteed onions and mushrooms. The prime rib is tender and juicy and served with a spicy au jus. The menu also features a wide selection of chicken, pork and pasta dishes. Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery

Comfortable and friendly, Liberty offers two of America’s favorite things: beer and beef, both of which they do extremely well. Beers are crafted right on the premises, in Myrtle Beach’s largest brewery; try the Rockets’ Red Ale, Miss Liberty Lager or a full-bodied Oatmeal Stout. Steaks are char-grilled, topped with fried onions, and accompanied by a salad and your choice of potato. There are other tasty options as well, such as fish and chips, awesome burgers and a fabulous spicy chicken and shrimp sandwich. During the busy summer season at Broadway at the Beach, be sure to check out Liberty’s less-crowded sister restaurant in the Dunes neighborhood.

Barons

Great steaks and chops are the main attraction to this Restaurant Row eatery, which has been serving patrons for many years in its relatively hidden Galleria location. The wine list is extensive and so is the menu, offering a variety of cuts and meats. The pork chops and lamb chops are a house specialty. Despite its Restaurant Row location, Baron’s is a bit off the beaten path, located on the back side of a shopping center. But the food and atmosphere are well worth the search. Many visit Baron’s fir happy hour at the bar to enjoy appetizers and drinks.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House – Myrtle Beach

This New Orleans-based restaurant chain has been successful for one reason – excellent steaks. With all USDA Prime steaks and chops seasoned and grilled to perfection, Ruth’s Chris has made a national name for itself based on its sweet cuts of meat. Visitors can order a salad, baked potato or steamed vegetables from the a la carte menu, but the steaks are large enough and tasty enough to serve as a meal all by themselves. The atmosphere is upscale and elegant with a great location for this fine-dining steakhouse – on the scenic Intracoastal Waterway at the Grande Dunes Marina.

Angelo’s Italian Restaurant

The name may say Italian, but the sign out front says “Greatest Steaks in the Universe,” and there are many repeat customers who will testify to that statement. Chuck’s Steak House

You may be at the beach, but this hunting-lodge restaurant might as well be in the heart of Omaha. Chuck’s serves thick, juicy, grilled steaks and other meats. Add a fluffy baked potato and a trip to the legendary salad bar, and you have the perfect antidote to a week spent scarfing down shrimp and all-you-can-eat fried fish. The lodge-like decor is appealingly non-beachy, but there are lovely views of the Intracoastal Waterway too, and the screened porch is a great place to admire the landscape. Bistro 90

Bistro 90 is a bit off the beaten path but well worth the trip if you’re looking for outstanding cuisine in a romantic atmosphere. Located in the tiny community of Longs, between North Myrtle Beach and Conway on Highway 90, this eatery got its name (or at least its number) from the seldom-traveled highway about 10 miles from the coast. But the secret is out about this hidden jewel as locals and visitors alike are learning about Bistro 90. Featuring traditional Italian dishes, prime cuts of beef that are aged on site and fresh seafood selections, the menu is diverse and delicious. Lunch is also available and nightly specials are recommended.

Bovine’s

Located in the heart of Myrtle Beach’s seafood district of Murrells Inlet, this upscale/casual steakhouse gives visitors options, especially for those with a taste of red meat instead of fish. Bovine’s features mesquite-grilled dishes. As its name might suggest, the atmosphere pays homage to the Old West with cow memorabilia lining the walls and tablecloths patterned with cowboy boots. The abundance of locals and regulars who have found their favorite place for steak make this a fun place to visit. Located on the salt marsh overlooking Murrells Inlet, the view is a big draw too, especially for a happy-hour sunset.

New York Prime

Enjoy the taste of an authentic, Lower Manhattan steakhouse in the heart of Myrtle Beach at New York Prime, which features first-class service and USDA-certified prime beef.
